Join us at the 2022 NCTM Annual Meeting & Exposition will be held September 28th through October 1st in Los Angeles, California.  Kim Conley, GCTM’s president, and I will be in attendance.  The conference theme is One Mathematics, Many Voices:  Sharing Our Collective Stories of Rehumanizing Mathematics Teaching and Learning.

The conference will feature an Infinity Bar where conference attendees may schedule an individual meeting up to two 10-minute time slots to speak with a conference presenter.  Each presenter will be limited to 4 of these meetings.  Registration for these “one-on-one” meetings is conducted online and ends at 6 pm PT on Wednesday, Sept. 28th.

Keep in mind that NCTM will require all conference attendees and exhibitors, regardless of vaccination status, to show proof of a negative COVID test within 48 hours before picking up their conference badge.  At-home tests will be accepted, and attendees will upload test results via the Crowdpass APP.  NCTM will share information on how to download the APP and upload test results no later than September 14th. Additionally, all attendees and exhibitors will be required at the conference to sign a COVID protocols and safety waiver with registration, provide proof of negative test within 48 hours before receiving conference badge, and bring a mask, (wearing a mask over your nose and mouth is required on all public transportation and in all indoor transportation hubs, including airport, train, and subway stations). More information about NCTM’s COVID policy may be found at https://www.nctm.org/Conferences-and-Professional-Development/Annual-Meetings/LosAngeles2022/Schedule/NCTM-COVID-Protocols/

Regional Caucuses will be held in the JW Marriott L.A. LIVE Hotel on Wednesday, Sept. 28th from 2 pm to 4 pm (PT). Delegate Assembly will be in the L.A. Convention Center on Thursday, Sept. 29th from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. (PT)

From the President, Trina Wilkerson, on positioning and pathways:

How do we position students, teachers, and mathematics in classrooms, policies, instructional practices, course structures, and pathways of opportunities to continue to engage in PK–12 mathematics and beyond? Pathways should be mathematically meaningful, rigorous, and include statistical and data literacy.  Most current pathways are very different with low expectation for many that lessen the deep understanding of math.  Some states have begun work on improving pathways for students; however, there are barriers that stymies this work.
