Georgia Mathematics Conference 2022
Dr. Michelle Mikes
Conference Program Chair

Let’s Reunite, Refocus, and Reimagine by meeting at
the 2022 Georgia Mathematics Conference!

Will you be joining us on the evening of Wednesday, October 19 through the afternoon of Friday, October 21? We sure hope so! If you haven’t already registered (early-bird rates until Oct. 1 include GMC swag!) check in with your administration to request funding support for professional learning. For those K-8 teachers that have conference week, consider requesting to have some of your conferences early or front-loading at the beginning of the week to free up time to attend the conference! Our theme is reuniting to network and learn, refocus on student success, and reimagine mathematics instruction.

Wednesday: the evening will consist of an opening session with our State Mathematics Program Director, Dr. Lya Snell who will be filling us in on the latest resources and instructional focus to support the Georgia Mathematics Standards to be implemented in the school year 2023-2024. Following her presentation will be the annual GCTM meeting, and evening festivities such as s’more conversations by the campfires on the lake and trivia!

Thursday: the morning keynote features Dr. Peter Liljedahl, researcher and author of Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics, 14 Teaching Practices for Enhancing Learning to kick off the sessions for the day. Joining us on Thursday will be featured speaker Sean Kavanaugh, founder of 360 Degree Mathematics who will be highlighting one of Dr. Liljedahl’s 14 teaching practices that can be used in your daily instructional routine of making student learning visible. Concurrent sessions with featured speakers will run during the day before the evening festivities such as the annual fun run, the newly developed scavenger hunt, and evening activities by the lake!

Friday: the morning keynote features Beatrice Moore Luchin, Mathematics Consultant and Author who will be joining us to share practical strategies to develop a student’s growth mindset in mathematics to increase student engagement, perseverance, and problem-solving success. Bea will hold a featured session after the keynote to extend these strategies. Concurrent sessions with featured speakers will run throughout the day until the close of the conference. Sponsors will be providing sessions each day that will include some fantastic prizes for educators in attendance!

Join GCTM today for a membership fee of $20.00! Membership results in a reduction of the conference fee. Please share this information with your colleagues. We look forward to seeing you at Rock Eagle!
