Now that school is back in session, tournament hosts are busy writing questions.  Math team coaches and students are anticipating more competitions as COVID-19 restrictions ease in Georgia.

Competition Challenge Problems

The problem below was written for the 2022 GCTM State Math Tournament by Preston Earle of Mount De Sales Academy. Just four dats before last year's tournament, math professor Steve Chow posted a video solution on his channel (on YouTube: blackpenredpen). We decided to change the question because blackpenredpen's channel has a little over 962,000 subscribers.  The question was selected to appear on the Team portion of the competition in which calculators are prohibited. Given a > 0 is a real number and a is not equal to one. The graphs of the functions:
