This issue of Reflections was published during the process of nation-wide school closures, self-distancing techniques of 6 feet or greater, and self-quarantining to “flatten the curve” to control the spread of COVID-19. Parents have grown insight into the world of teaching as they assist in the home-schooling process, and teachers have transitioned to teaching online with little time to prepare. GCTM understands your challenges because our community of educators is experiencing it with you! You are not alone. We miss our students, classrooms, and the magic of interacting with our "kids" during the teaching and learning process.
This challenging time is also fertile ground for professional growth and learning how to teach mathematics differently. I am personally thankful to those companies that have offered free webinars, temporary memberships, premium features, and video conferences that have made this challenging time bearable AND enlightening. The resources that we use today to virtually teach our students will certainly be helpful tools in the future.
Below, find some amazing resources to aid in your professional development and to help you make the transition into developing your very own digital classroom. If you find one that changes your instructional practices, don’t forget to share what you’ve learned with our readers. I look forward to hearing from you!
