Election Process and Updates

Debbie Poss

Executive Director

The Results are In!

The membership voted and the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics has elected new officers that will take office on November 1, 2021.

The President-Elect is Tammy Donalson.  Presently our GMC Registrar, Tammy will serve as the President-Elect for one year, as President for two years and as Past-President for one year.  She loves mathematics and has taught it in both middle school and high school, although she is currently Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction and 9-12 Curriculum Director at Cairo High School.  Congratulations are in order for Tammy as she is retiring after 31 years in education.  Although it is sad that this award-winning teacher will be no longer working with students, we are happy that she will be guiding and advocating for Georgia’s teachers as our future President.

Storie Atkins will continue to serve as our Secretary for two more years.  She was gracious enough to step in as our Secretary in April 2020 after William Lacefield passed away and is looking forward to continuing in that role.  Storie has taught mathematics in high school and community college and is presently the department chair at Columbus High School.  Highly active in the Georgia Association of Advanced Placement Teachers (GA2MPT) and as a mathematics team coach, she has won awards at the local, state and national levels.  She gives GCTM credit for having a tremendously positive effect on both her professional and personal life.

Jennifer Donalson will serve as our Vice President for Advocacy from 2021 until 2023.   Currently, Jennifer serves as our Vice President of Regional Services and you might have seen her presenting at the GMC or at the 2019 GCTM Summer Academy.   Although Jennifer has only taught 6 years, this award-winning teacher has taught both mathematics and science at both the elementary and middle school levels.   She believes that mathematics teachers in Georgia should be supported by the leadership in the schools and at the state level and is ready to advocate for that position.  Tammy and Jennifer will be a fierce mother-daughter force for GCTM.

Melanie Williamson will be using her impressive leadership skills as our next Vice President of Regional Services.  Currently serving as our Metro East Representative, Melanie now will be coordinating the duties and activities of the GCTM Regional Representatives.  In her 16 years at Lithonia Middle School, she has had many roles that have given her experience in teaching, training, mentoring and coaching educators as well as students.  She enjoys working with people, building relationships, communicating, providing advice and sharing new ideas with people.  As a “Virtual Teacher of the Month” award winner, we look forward to her sharing her expertise with GCTM.
